As with all GM's large size, the Cadillac DeVille was redesigned in 1971. The standard deville parts engine was a 472, still rated at 375 SAE gross hp · and 365 ft lbf (495 N m) of torque. The Cadillac DeVille was still essentially Calais more options and various external devices.

In November 1971, showroom-stock 1971 Cadillac DeVille was third in the annual coast-to-coast Cannonball Run, posting the highest average speed of events, 84.6 mph (136.2 kmh) (without stopping) and average 8.9 mpg - USA (26 l/100 km, 10.7 mpg-imp).

The Cadillac DeVille front has been redesigned with the newly approved quad rectangular headlamps, for the 1975, 210 hp 500 V8 replaced the standard 472 deville parts engine. 1974 with the introduction of the optional "Air Cushion Restraint System". Today is known as airbags, to protect the front occupants in the event of a frontal collision. A bag was placed in the wheel, the other in the dashboard of the passenger. Glovebox was replaced by a lockable storage compartment under the dashboard. After the 1976 Cadillac DeVille model was offered.

The Cadillac DeVille "d'Elegance" Packet-In 1974 Cadillac DeVille series is available with an optional "d'Elegance" package. Like Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham package of the name, but offered velvet cloth seats, custom carpet and exterior badges.

The Cadillac DeVille package is available in both coupe and sedan models. "D'Elegance 'name was on the Cadillac DeVille series as a package by the 1984. In 1997 it became a separate model name for the sedan deville parts.
