Picture of Pontiac BonnevilleFrom 1971 to 1975, Pontiac Bonneville has de-emphasized somewhat as Pontiac Grand Ville name for the highest price model. During these years, fell to the midline Pontiac Bonneville state (rather than the Executive) the cheaper Pontiac Catalina and Grandville. During these years, Pontiac Bonneville offered in three body, including the four pillars-door sedan, four-door hardtop sedan and two-door hardtop coupe. The standard engine for 1971-72 was 455 cubic inch V8 with two-barrel carburetor that was rated 280 hp at 1971 gross and 185 net horsepower in 1972 and had four optional 455 barrel version rated at 325 HP 1971 gross and 250 net horse power in 1972. (on thick paper evaluations in both years reflect changes in the showdown between the two years were common throughout the automotive industry at the time).

In 1971, it was also the first for Pontiac and other General Motors Manufacturer divisions to reduce the compression on all engines across the board, use lower octane regular leaded, low lead or unleaded gasoline due to corporate edict preparation for the introduction of catalysts in 1975 to respond to the increasing stringent federal (and California) emission standards .

From 1973 to 1976 decreased Pontiac Bonneville standard engine with 170 hp 400 cubic inch V8. Optionally available is a 455 four barrel V8 rated at 250 hp (190 kW) and 200 for 1973-74 and 1975-76. In 1973, Pontiac Bonneville is the only full-size Pontiac on "Radial Tuned Suspension" option package, steel-bias-belted radial tires, along with private Pliacell suspension with shock absorbers and front and rear stabilizer bars offer. RTS option for 1974 has been extended to all full-size Pontiac and radial tires are standard on all models 1975 to upgrade "RTS" package is still available as an option.

Upon conclusion of the series after 1975 Grand Ville, Pontiac Bonneville once again emerged as the top line of full-size models of the series for 1976 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham of the same features luxurious interior and left Grandville.
